Impertinence/Impermanece of Memory
This exhibit is a visual exploration of memory itself. While forgetting is often viewed as a failure of memory, here it is reimagined not as a negation, but as an essential part of the evocation process. The gaps it creates in our experiences are, ironically, never truly absent; rather, they are integral to the larger whole. The forgotten is not something to be mourned but rather is woven into the fabric of the cognitive archive itself. The alleged absence of certain moments and details forms the very foundation upon which our narrative is built.  By incorporating traditional Sicilian textile patterns and practices mixed with personal family imagery, these works underscore the idea that what is forgotten is just as vital to memory as what is remembered.

This exhibit showcases a series of suspended posters, book, and custom typeface exploration.
Textiles have long been a powerful medium for passing down cultural stories, traditions, and histories, therefore I phsically and metaphorically wove the forgotton into the memory.
Inspired by Sicilian textiles, I created my own versions of these patterns.
I focused on visualization of the “gaps” in the memory being an integral part of the composition rather than literal holes.
I used refracted imagery to combine 3 or 4 pictures into one, representing how we don’t always remeber sequentially and not everything is always completely there or lined up.
